The Francophone Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles is a social and business network dedicated to promote the products and services of Francophone regions, support the development of business relationships between the USA and Francophone regions and encourage local Francophone to do business with each others. The 64th Cannes Festival closed its doors on May 22th after 2 weeks of glamour.
 

This year the Arpa career achievement winner, nominated at the FrancophoneFest Cinema, Serge Avedikian presented his next project, a full-length film about the life of Sergei Paradjanov, “the soviet film director” who passed away in 1990. The luckiest who were at La Croisette on May 17th could intend at this presentation at the Ukrainian stand.

Cannes made a special tribute to the Martinique-born film director Euzhan Palcy
Rue Cases-Nègres (Sugar Cane Alley) was screened on May 14th in a restored version in the Cannes Classics. The screening was preceded by a short film produced by the same director in 2011: Moly directed by Moly Kane (Senegal).


Adapted from the novel by Joseph Zobel, Rue Cases-Nègres (Sugar Cane Alley) takes place in Martinique in 1930, and tells the story of a grandmother's battle for her 11 year old grandson to receive a good education. Euzhan Palcy was 25 years-old when she produced this film. It received the César Award for Best First Feature Film in France and more than 17 international prizes, including the Silver Lion and the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival.


Euzhan Palcy is the director of the Hollywood movie “A dry White Season with Marlon Brando”.
